In order to improve air flow, workers at the Sukhodolske-Vostochne mine of Metinvest Group’s Krasnodon Coal specialists are dinting the floor and improving the roof supports in mine workings. The work is being conducted at an 890 meter horizon to stabilize production at two mine faces. The monthly cost of this repair is about UAH 190,000.
Over the years the mine has been in operation, high pressure from overburden has decreased the size of the mine tunnel section, which has led to reduced air flow. The mine’s main fans have been working at maximum capacity.
“The poor condition of the tunnel in terms of air flow is impacting the entire production process,” said Aleksandr Angelovskiy, general director of Krasnodon Coal. “In order to prevent production interruptions, we decided to repair the tunnel.”
This work is taking place for the first time in 20 years. A total of 2,700 meters of mine tunnels need to be repaired in the eastern main mine working and in the 21st lateral air passage. This will take about two years to complete.
